Shifting Out of Negativity

The world can be full of negativity that can drag us down and prevent us from living to our full potential. It can be super easy to drop into a negative mindset with wars, politics, global warming, violence, the rising cost of living, and more. So how can we deal with all of this negativity in a positive way?

First, it is important to understand how the mind works. Our lower reptilian mind is built for survival. It is almost like it picks up on negativity and amplifies it. Although it thinks it is keeping us safe, it is actually causing us to suffer unnecessarily. Our thoughts can go down a rabbit hole which really only causes us to be wallowing in a state of fear and uncertainty. Know that this is completely natural but it is up to you to stop it.

The higher mind may be quieter but it can lift us up into the higher version of ourselves. It knows that no matter how difficult the situation is, ultimately we are loved, worthy, and protected by a divine guidance. Your intuition communicates to you through your higher mind. Positivity and the silver lining perspective also speaks to you through your higher mind. Many things in life are illogical because spiritual experiences are not always linear or concrete like our lower minds tend to analyze. The higher mind does not worry about the “how.” It knows a change or something will occur, but “how” it will happen is not the worry.

Now, let's think about how energy works. Einstein taught us that everything is energy. The foods you eat carry a certain energy, and so does the music you listen to, the shows you watch, and the social media content you consume. Your emotions also carry a specific energy to them. Everything in life carries a specific frequency including you! When we drop into lower frequencies and emotions it is easy to go down a negative spiral.

When you realize you are starting to drop down into negative emotions, it is important to pause and check in with yourself so you can do something to start lifting your vibration. The strategy here is going to look different for everyone. We all have different tools that resonate with us more than others.

Here are my top 8 favorite ways to filter out the negativity and lift myself back up into a high vibrational state:

  1. Present moment, wonderful moment. Focus on the present moment and let everything else disappear. The future is not guaranteed and we all know life can change in a heartbeat. In the present moment, nothing else truly exists. What is going on in the world becomes irrelevant. It is just you, right here and now. Focus on this present moment and if there is anything you could do to make it even better and more pleasurable.

  2. Emotional Freedom Technique. EFT is a great way to shift your energy and it can reaffirm the negative emotions you are experiencing but also lift you up into the positive emotions that you truly desire. Search YouTube with EFT for ... with the issue you would like to resolve.

  3. Binaural Beats. I love binaural beats as they require no effort aside from putting on headphones and hitting play. I use the Beatfulness app but they are also on Spotify and YouTube. By listening to two different frequencies of music in each ear, your brain has to balance it out and it will drop into a totally different frequency that can help with creativity, pain, energy, or whatever you are looking for.

  4. A favorite playlist. Music in general will change your frequency because it carries its own. Find one of your favorite playlists to help shift your mood in the direction you want.

  5. Time in nature. Nature will always help bring you back to your true self. Try experiencing the outdoor world with all of your senses to help bring you into the present moment and let go of the negative thoughts. Look at it as if you were seeing things for the very first time

  6. Breathing practices. There are many different breathing practices with a variety of different effects. Slow deep breathing is a simple enough way to calm down your mind. There are a variety of yogic breathing exercises that provide different effects like Kapalabhati, Anuloma Viloma, or even box breathing. I used this DMT Breathing Practice this morning and had great results.

  7. Physical practices. Free your body, free your mind! A great way to get out of your head is to get into your body. Once again, this looks different for everyone. Foam rolling can be a great tension and stress reliever but you could also do some yoga, stretching, go for a walk, or any form of physical movement that resonates with you.

  8. Find your flow state. Do you have an activity you enjoy that puts you in a flow state where time passes and you don't even feel it? Dive into the hobby or activity that puts you into your flow state.

Next time you are struggling with negativity, which tool will YOU turn to? A failure to plan is a plan to fail so make sure you have a strategy to turn to. Honestly, you should do one of these activities right now to get it into your nervous system. The more you turn to the tools in your toolbox, the more it will become second nature. Don't forget to pause anytime you aren't feeling the way you want and check in with yourself to see how you can shift your energy and lift your vibration.
