A few weeks ago I decided to embark on the Ultimate Reset journey, a 3-week clean eating and detox program, for a couple of different reasons. First and foremost, I am finally regaining my health and haven't had many symptoms of illness lately. I have had so many ups and downs that I am still nervous to say that I am healed but each healthy day makes me a little more confident!
The reset is a combination of a 3-week clean eating meal plan where the second week you progress to being vegetarian, and the third week you are vegan. I always have a challenge cutting out dairy to commit to being vegan so I thought this plan may help with that. More importantly, there are three weeks of supplements with a colon cleanse the second week, and I want to make sure I have gotten rid of these toxins once and for all!!
The other reason I wanted to try out the reset is because I have been using Beachbody products for years and I am a coach with them. That means I make a small commission off any of my clients that buy their products and in exchange the coaching from me comes free when you sign up for a program or product.
I am highly selective about who I partner with and like to try every product out myself before recommending it to others. That is the second reason I am doing the reset. I want to go through the process so I can give you a first hand account of what I think of the supplements, the recipes, and the journey as a whole.
When I initially signed up I had just moved to NYC to do a live-in contract with a client. I had no idea that we would be going on a spur of the moment road trip for the month. This isn't the ideal set up to do a disciplined meal plan BUT it is keeping me eating very clean on the road!
Here is what the first week of food looked like for me in photos! Now keep in mind that I didn't follow the meal plan precisely. I used meals from different days wherever I found it convenient and definitely put my own spin on things as long as the meal was still clean and balanced.
I have to say that I have been skipping the power greens supplement or sneaking it into my Shakeology. I eat enough greens that I don't feel any need to take a green supplement, but that is not the case for most people! 90% of people don't get enough veggies a day so if that is you - make sure you take the supplement. It is part of the reset for a reason and I'm hoping to do better with it this week while we are in more of a routine.
My caffeine routine is all gone now. I actually prefer to run on natural energy and not caffeine but I really love the taste and flavor of coffee so I quickly get sucked back into the habit once in awhile. I am not missing caffeine at all and don't even think about it anymore.
Well, I was daydreaming of it a little bit on the road trip yesterday but essentially realized how unnecessary it is.
I am on day seven today so the week hasn't officially ended but this morning I was 3 pounds lighter! I'm a little surprised as I already eat very similar to this but I definitely allow myself to have healthy treats and a meal out once a week so it's amazing how those calories add up! I feel like most people lose about 5 pounds the first week but it really depends on how much you have to lose and how poor your eating habits are beforehand.
All in all this has been a good experience. It has reinstated how easy it is to eat clean and how good it makes you feel. The overnight oats and morning fruit plates have to be the two easiest breakfasts in the world aside from Shakeology or a smoothie.
It has forced me to go head-to-head with my inner child that says "I'm traveling, I want to go out to eat and experience the local fare." and tell it to stop being a whiny child! Food is fuel and if you want premium fuel - you generally need to make it at home.
Plus when you eat clean, you eat a lot more food because it isn't as calorie dense as processed foods. I find that fun for some reason! I am definitely someone that eats to live not vice versa so I know this is easier for me in some ways but I think this is a very filling and easy meal plan for most people to follow.
I have to be honest. I am a little scared of week two. Any time you hear the words "colon cleanse" it can bring up a little trepidation LOL. I know the meals will be just fine - you can always swap out things you don't like for other days or revert back to last weeks recipes as long as you don't do the salmon or eggs. The supplements are what I'm scared of but honestly after the medical journey I have been on, they can't be too bad!
Hopefully week two will fly by as easily as week one. I will let you know next week! I am also going on Facebook nightly with a recap of the day and so you get a first hand look at how my energy levels are, complexion, and what dinner looks like. You can catch the replays on Facebook or the YouTube playlist.
